Donggualing Fm
Type Locality and Naming
Named in 1961 by the Survey Team of the First District of the Sichuan Geological Bureau, it was first publicly cited in 1978 by the Sichuan Provincial Regional Stratigraphic Table Compiling Group. It was named "Donggualing Coal Formation", which refers to the continental coal-bearing strata distributed in the Yanyuan area. The named profile is located in Donggualing, Yanyuan, Sichuan.
Synonym: The First Zone Survey Team of the Sichuan Geological Bureau named the Heiyantang Fm in 1960, the Donggualing Coal Fm and the Baiguowan Coal Fm in 1961, the Shanghai Boda Fm in 1971, and the Donggualing Fm in 1974.
Lithology and Thickness
It is mainly composed of gray, gray-green, dark gray, gray-black quartz sandstone, siltstone, silty mudstone, and shale intercalated coal seams. It is 490 to 800 m thick, Yanyuan Donggualing is 489.6 m thick, and Yanyuan Boda Township is 700 m thick.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
At the bottom, the gravel-bearing coarse sandstone and conglomerate are in pseudo-conformity contact with the underlying Boda Fm (Yanyuan region).
Upper contact
The top is in unconformity contact with the overlying Tertiary Lijiang Fm thick conglomerate.
Regional extent
This group is found in the areas of Deligou, Donggualing and Boda Township, Yanyuan. Little change in lithology. There are dozens of layers of coal in Yanyuan and Yantang.

Plants fossils include Dictyophyllum nathorsti, Clathropteris meniscioides, Todites shensiensis, Danaeopsis fecunda, Anomozamites minor, and freshwater bivalves, etc.
